Breast and Bowel Surgery
Surgeons perform a range of procedures to remove cancerous tissue while prioritizing safety, comfort, and cosmetic outcomes. These may include:
- Lumpectomy (breast conserving surgery)
- Mastectomy
- Lymph node biopsy or dissection
Image-Guided Localization
Before surgery, patients may undergo localization procedures, where a radiologist places a marker in the breast to help surgeons accurately locate and remove the targeted area.
Benign Breast Conditions
Surgery may also be performed to remove benign lumps, cysts, or other non-cancerous changes that require further investigation or treatment.
Our breast surgery program works closely with the OBSP Breast Assessment Clinic to facilitate smooth transitions from imaging, biopsy, and diagnosis to surgical consultation and treatment.
Bowel Surgery
Our surgical team provides comprehensive care for patients with cancers or pre-cancerous conditions of the colon and rectum.
Colorectal Cancer Surgery
Procedures may include:
- Removal of cancerous segments of the colon or rectum
- Minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, when appropriate
- Resection of polyps or growths not fully removable during colonoscopy
Timely surgical care plays a vital role in treating colorectal cancer, often in coordination with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or ongoing surveillance.
Management of Pre-Cancerous Conditions
Patients with conditions such as advanced polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, or hereditary colorectal syndromes may also require surgical intervention to reduce cancer risk.
Collaborative Cancer Care
Breast and bowel surgeries are part of a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment. Our surgical team works closely with:
- Diagnostic Imaging
- Endoscopy
- Oncology
- Surgical Pathology
- Nursing and Supportive Care Teams
Pathology results from surgical specimens are reviewed by specialized pathologists to guide further treatment and follow-up.
Our Commitment to Patients
We are dedicated to every patient receiving compassionate and individualized care throughout their surgical experience. From diagnosis to recovery, our goal is to provide clear communication, coordinated support, and high-quality surgical treatment to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
