Our RMH laboratory is located on the first floor, Room 1372.
Our RMH Laboratory operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Lab Support for Ambulatory Care Centre operates Monday-Friday.

About Our Laboratory
Our medical laboratory provides timely, accurate, and safe diagnostic testing to support patient care within our hospital. We partner closely with healthcare teams to ensure results are clinically meaningful and easy to understand.
Our Scope:
We offer specimen collection (venipuncture) and ECG procedures as well as analytical testing in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). When we are unable to provide testing on-site, we arrange specimen transportation to qualified alternate laboratories.

Our Laboratory is accredited by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (ISO 15189 Plus).

Accreditation Canada Diagnostics’ ISO 15189 Plus certification is a rigorous quality standard for medical laboratories, combining the requirements of ISO 15189 (Medical Laboratories – Quality and Competence) with additional Canadian patient‐safety and risk‑management practices. Achieving ISO 15189 Plus demonstrates that our laboratory consistently meets internationally recognized benchmarks for technical competence, quality management, and continuous improvement.

How to Access Services
Our services are available to patients of our Emergency Department, Inpatient units, and patients registered for services in our Ambulatory Care Centre.
Your care team will coordinate lab services during your admission or visit when required.
We do not provide community/outpatient lab services.
When to Expect Results (Typical Turnaround Times)
Turnaround times (TAT) reflect the usual time from specimen receipt to result availability. Urgent tests are prioritized.
- Routine on-site services: Same day
- Microbiology (referred-out): 24–72 hours
- Anatomic pathology (referred-out): 3–7 business days
- HPV tests/cytology (referred out): 1–3 weeks
- Send‑out tests: Varies by reference lab and test requested (1–4 weeks)
Your provider will discuss results with you. If your result is critical, we notify your care team immediately.
Receiving Your Results
Reports are issued directly to the requesting provider.
Patients can also access their results directly using MyChart.
