Mammogram Event Invites Eligible Women to get Screened at RMH

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Ross Memorial Hospital, in partnership with Cancer Care Ontario, is inviting women aged 50 to 54 to book a mammogram appointment.

Oct. 21 has been chosen as the provincial Day of the Mammogram. Participating Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) sites across the province will be accepting walk-in appointments and all sites will be booking women for regularly scheduled mammograms. The one-day screening blitz is part of Cancer Care Ontario’s Just Book It campaign to encourage women to be screened for breast cancer with a mammogram.

“The provincial Day of the Mammogram is an important event. We’re giving eligible women between the ages of 50 and 74 the chance to take action, get screened and increase awareness about breast cancer,” said Tracy Mann, RMH Breast Health Navigator. “Finding breast cancer early means it’s less likely to spread and there’s a better chance of treating it successfully.”

Eligible women can visit www.cancercare.on.ca/justbookit to find an OBSP site that will be offering walk-in appointments on Oct. 21 or call 1-800-668-9304 to book a mammogram at a time that is convenient. To call and book an appointment at RMH directly, eligible women can call 705-328-6175.

Breast cancer occurs most often in women 50 to 74 years of age, but many eligible women within this age group still do not participate in breast screening. It is recommended that eligible average-risk women get screened with a mammogram every two years.
