Patients benefit from exceptional Emergency Department ranking

RMH is proud to be ranked Number 1 in province for January 2016.

Dr. Bert Lauwers, RMH President and CEO, is delighted to announce that RMH’s provincial ranking for Emergency Department performance has leapt to the top rank out of a total of 73 designated ‘Pay for Results’ sites in Ontario for January 2016.

The Pay for Results (P4R) program is a Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care program funding one-time initiatives to support the reduction of Length of Stay and improved patient experience in Emergency Departments.

“This result is a wonderful confirmation of unparalleled teamwork,” said Lauwers. “It takes the commitment of the entire organization to bring us to the number one rank for performance in the province for P4R hospitals. It was a dramatic difference from January 2015. Most importantly, it means that patients are experiencing much better access to the services they need.”

The Emergency Department Pay for Results program ranking is based on six performance benchmarks:

· length of stay for patients with minor conditions
· length of stay for patients with complex conditions
· length of stay for patients who are admitted to the hospital
· the time from triage to the physician’s initial assessment
· the time from being admitted in the ER to being placed into an inpatient bed
· ambulance off-load time

The cumulative results for January 2016 placed the Hospital number one for the month.

In 2008, the Ross Memorial’s Pay for Results ranking was 50th out of 74 hospitals. With hard work, the team brought its ranking up to 17th in 2012 and 9th in 2013.
