New Vice President at RMH began her career as Medical Radiation Technologist

When Veronica Nelson began working at the Ross in 1999, her job as a Medical Radiation Technologist involved imaging patients’ injuries and illnesses using xray and CT technology, to ensure physicians had the information they needed to treat patients in the Emergency Department and in the Operating Room.

Her passion for the work inspired her to pursue advanced studies in Radiation Science, and later, healthcare administration. By 2008, Veronica was running the Diagnostic Imaging Department as Technical Director. She took on the responsibilities of Project Manager, both during the $5.8 million redevelopment of the Diagnostic Imaging campaign, and during the $10 million Infrastructure Upgrade. In 2014, Veronica’s role as DI Director expanded to include Haliburton Highlands Health Services.

On June 5th, Veronica became Ross Memorial’s new Vice President Diagnostics, Procurement and Special Projects. She oversees the following  departments: Surgical, Woman & Child, Medical Device Reprocessing Department, Mental Health, Dialysis, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory and Procurement.

“I always loved working with patients on the frontline,” Veronica said. “And the more I learned, the more I wanted to be a part of decisions that would improve our services and impact all of our patients.”

“Veronica has been performing this role as Acting VP for the past five months and has provided the Hospital with excellent guidance and innovation in the areas for which she is responsible,” said Dr. Bert Lauwers, President & CEO. “The senior management team is excited to welcome her aboard now that her role has been made permanent. With her experience and motivation, we know she will be a great leader at the Ross.”

Veronica has completed a Masters Certificate in Healthcare Administration, a Masters Degree in Medical Radiation Science, and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Imaging.

Outside of RMH, Veronica is a Board Director of the Kawartha Credit Union, and was Chair of the Board of the Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences from 2008-2013. She was also a founding Director of the Omemee Medical Centre.
